NEW YORK DOLLS
Born from the sleaze and swagger of New York City in 1971, the New York Dolls were one of the most reckless and electrifying bands rock has ever produced. Trashy, wide-open guitars, David Johansen's gutter-glam vocals, and Johnny Thunders' blown-out leads took the glam of the era and dragged it through the dirt of the Lower East Side. Their lipstick-and-leather image was every bit as confrontational as the music. The Dolls didn't just make records, they lit the fuse for punk itself.
