Other’s SS18 collection entitled ‘Vacant’ is a conceptual collection referencing an ex-servicemen’s struggle to escape his past. Although no longer in the forces, he finds himself still serving in the lonely battle within his mind. A search for distraction ensues and he finds himself stumbling through the frivolous pleasures of Las Vegas, a temporary fix for the vacant mind.

Vegas themed neon prints detail the signature oversized tees and hoodies. Cuban collar shirts and accompanying shorts add a retro Americana inspired injection of bold prints and vivid colour to the otherwise muted colour palette of khaki, beige and black. Key pieces include the Vacant Funnel Bomber Jacket, which reworks the classic military MA-1 bomber silhouette with overhang cargo pockets, a cropped body and large ribbed neck. Also inspired by military clothing are the Vacant Trench, Cargo hoodie, pants and shorts, meticulously designed with functionality in mind in both the fit and use of hidden pockets, zips and ribbing.

The denim combines several techniques and largely remains distressed with key pairs featuring Vacant print on rear ankle. The Vacant collection also introduces Other’s new denim sizing system. Denim is now named 114, 116, 118 in reference to the size of ankle opening and followed by the name of that particular pair. 114 is a skinny-fit jean with 14cm ankle opening. 116 is the slim-fit jean with 16cm ankle opening. 118 is the straight jean with 18cm ankle opening. Each pair is then, if necessary, customised with seasonal distressing, cropping, printing and embroidery.
